A number of years ago our firm had to decide if we would be one of the few law firms in the state to bring claims on behalf of persons who were financially damaged by an attorney's neglect or dishonesty. We concluded that it would be hypocritical of us to require doctors, motorists, and manufacturers to follow the law, but allow lawyers to break the law and get away with it.

A Westport lawyer had two years to bring a clear-cut personal injury claim involving injuries sustained to the client in an automobile accident. He, however, completely missed the time frame for filing a claim thereby relieving the driver who went through a stop sign and his insurance company of responsibility for the accident. Fortunately, the lawyer had his own malpractice insurance and eventually the client was able to recover the full value of his claim. Other lawyers had rejected the case, but we felt that we had a duty to protect the public.
