Sheldon received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of the Holy Cross and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Connecticut School of Law. Mr. Sheldon is an acknowledged expert in workers' compensation law and serves on the State of Connecticut Workers' Compensation Legal Advisory Board. He has assisted in the enactment of legislation and argued numerous cases before the Connecticut Supreme Court that have expanded the rights of injured workers in this state.
He has steadfastly held attorneys to the highest standard of care in dealing with their clients by successfully suing lawyers who violate their oath. By overcoming significant legal barriers, Mr. Sheldon has collected millions of dollars for victims of personal injury.
A member of the Board of Governors of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association since 1987, Mr. Sheldon has served as president of that prestigious organization and is a frequent contributor to its continuing legal education programs. The American Board of Trial Advocates has also selected Mr. Sheldon into its membership, which is limited to the top trial lawyers in the country who are vigorously engaged in civil litigation. He is also a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of American, the Connecticut Bar Association and the Greater Bridgeport Bar Association and has lectured at seminars presented by those organizations throughout his career.
He has continually served, as the request of judges, as a Trial Referee in the state court and as a Special Master in the Federal Court. In 1997, the governor acknowledged the respect with which he is held in the legal community by appointing him to the State Judicial Review Council, a body that evaluates complaints made against judges and workers' compensation commissioners in Connecticut. He was recently listed in 2007 Connecticut Super Lawyers in the field of plaintiffs' personal injury.
